High School Sweethearts
When you know, you know! And Emily and Thomas knew from the very beginning that they were a great match. Young love can be now of the very best parts of high school, and when that love continues to last a lifetime, that's pure magic! Thomas and Emily were only 14 when they first met. Over a decade later, their love is still going strong. Here is their story:
My husband and I met when we were 14 in math class. He asked me for my number, and I took his, obliviously. At 14, I wasn’t allowed to date and was oblivious that he liked me… so I never texted him. Then in gr.12, a few weeks before prom, one of my friends tells me that “Thomas wants to ask you to prom.” We didn’t have many classes together, except for physics, which he was much better at than me. I strategically started sitting next to him in class as an excuse to talk with him, which progressed into him tutoring me because I was truly awful at physics. We eventually go to exchange numbers, because I had totally forgotten about our brief encounter a few years before, and there it was, already in my phone! Eventually he worked up the nerve to ask me to prom.
We were both awkward little teens and took pictures and had a good night. I really liked him, and had always been very shy. I decided tonight was the night to be bold. He had already committed to going to Carleton, and I was going to UofT, so I decided when he dropped me off at home, I was going to work up the courage to kiss him. Worst case scenario, it’s weird and we never speak ever again….
Well today is actually the 11th anniversary of that prom date and here we are, 11 years later. We have a house in Orleans, a golden retriever named Winston, and a cat named Carl. He proposed to me with a ring that was designed at La Maison d'Or, with the guidance of Rita, who made Thomas feel confident in the process. His mother died when he was very young, and La Maison d'Or used her engagement ring and constructed mine from the diamonds. Thomas was very pleased with the respect and love that went into the process, even if it was during COVID times and he and Rita literally had to sit in the food court of Place d’Orleans as they went over the process.
Despite never having showed him the sort of ring I desired, he designed the most perfect tri-stone, which was exactly what I wanted. Rita helped us pick out the perfect wedding bands, mine with Canadian diamonds as I highly value ethical stones, and his made of Tungston, as he needed something sturdy since he works with his hands. La Maison d'Or played an integral part in making sure our big day was perfect, and we are reminded of that every day when we look down at our hands.
Thank you Rita, and everyone on the team, for making everyone’s special days even more beautiful.
Love,
Emily and Thomas
