BEHIND THE BRAND: MAPLE LEAF DIAMONDS
To most, the mere mention of Canada’s Arctic region evokes breathtaking images of a hushed, frozen landscape with magnificent wildlife, inaccessible to all but a few. While it continues to evoke those images, the reality is that now, it is so much more.
Fully operational by 1998, the Ekati™ diamond mine put Canada on the world diamond map. By 2003, with the then newly discovered Diavik™ mine under full production, Canada became number three in the world by value for diamond production.
Maple Leaf Diamonds™ come from the Ekati, Diavik and Gahcho Kué mines in the Northwest Territories and the Renard mine in Quebec.
All Maple Leaf Diamonds™ are tracked individually from the rough diamond crystal to the stunning polished diamond to prove Canadian origin. Each polished diamond has been laser inscribed with a unique tracking number to verify this incredible journey from mine to finger.
Ekati™, the first Canadian diamond mine.
Brent Harden, owner of La Maison D'or Jewellers, was honoured to be part of a northern adventure to Ekati™, the first Canadian diamond mine.
Brent was excited to learn first-hand about the birthplace of Maple Leaf Diamonds™ and their journey in order to bring these beautiful and responsibly-mined diamonds directly to you.
The sheer scale of the operation and level of complexity was astounding. Brent saw how these amazing Canadian treasures.which formed more than 3 billion years ago, are brought to light.
